MDI was founded in 1968 to supply scenery and drapery to Opera companies across North America. In the early ‘80’s the drapery division began manufacturing PVC cycloramas and rear projection screens. Recognizing the market potential for Cinema Screens MDI began manufacturing front projection screens in 1991

In June, 1997 MDI opened a plant to meet the growing demand for PVC cinema screens. MDI's business grew quickly thanks to its high quality products and rapid delivery.

As business expanded, it soon became obvious that a new plant was needed. In November 1998, MDI inaugurated its new 80 feet-high painting tower as well as the 24 000 sq. feet production area.

Due to increased sales, a third addition of over 15 000 sq. feet was completed in the spring of 2003.
